Item: Vermont State Seal Coat Button
Backmark: "* SCOVILL MF'G CO. * / WATERBURY." rmdc
Design: Vermont state coat of arms. (For more on Vermont's coat of arms see below.)
Construction: Convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 23 mm.
Condition: Excellent, non-excavated, secure shank present. The front of this button has a dusty yellow-golden patina. The rear displays a very legible backmark. There are no pushes, cracks, breaks, or repairs.

Comments: This example will be an excellent addition to any Civil War button or general relic collection.
Additional information: According to "Uniform Buttons of the United States 1776-1865" by Warren K. Tice,
"The state coat of arms is on a central shield, surmounted by a stag's head crest. A word "VERMONT" lies above, and a ribbon with the state motto and 13 stars is below. The sky of shield is lined and there are six tiers of branches perpendicular to the pine at the device center. The stag head crest is without a well-defined support wreath".
