Item: VMI - Virginia Military Institute Cadet Button - R & W Robinson
Backmark: "R & W. ROBINSON" dm; on ribbon with an eagle between the swallowtail ends.
Construction: Low convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 21 mm.
Condition: Very good, excavated, secure shank present. The button front has a gilt covered brown patina. The rear is moderately pushed. There are no cracks, breaks, repairs or other pushes.

Comments: It is the desirable R & W Robinson back mark that is typically found on excavated examples of these buttons from Civil War sites.
