This fifty cent Corporation of Winchester note was issued by the local government of Winchester, Virginia, in 1861. Printed on the note is "STATE OF VIRGINIA. / Issued under the Act of the Corporation of December 15th, 1860. / DUE BY THE CORPORATION OF WINCHESTER. / FIFTY CENTS. / Payable in Virginia Bank Notes by the Treasurer to bearer on presentation of these due bills, in sums of FIVE DOLLARS." The note depicts symbolism of agriculture at left, a beehive, in center, a guard dog centered at bottom, yellow print, on plain paper, plain back. Date is printed, serial number of "1632" is hand inscribed, signature is hand signed. Printing: "LUCAS & SONS, PRS. BALT." This note is in fair condition with small pinholes, edge wear, staining, and now soft paper. This handsome note will come in a clear acid free envelope for preservation and display and will be an excellent addition to any Civil War note or general relic collection.
