Comments: This .54 caliber "Raleigh" pattern bullet was acquired directly from the Virginia digger who maintained a journal of his days of detecting and subsequent relic recoveries for nearly a decade. Included in the additional images is a scanned image of the digger (on left), with his hunting buddies and their detectors. According to Round Ball to Rimfire, Part Four, by Dean Thomas, on page 200, item 271, these bullets were "made at the N.C. Institute for the Deaf & Dumb and the Blind". Scanned images of this page, and page 35 from "Civil War Projectiles II Small Arms & Field Artillery with Supplement" by W. Reid McKee and M. E. Mason, Jr., are included in the additional images.  This bullet will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War bullet or general relic collection.
