Backmark: "W. DOWLER / SUPERIOR QUALITY" dm
Design: Stippled Roman "R" lies on a plain field.
Construction: Convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 22 mm.
Condition: Very good, excavated, secure shank present. The button has a very pleasing rich green patina. It is solid with minor ground action (see Comments section below). No pushes, cracks, breaks or repairs.
Recovered: Unknown.

Comments: The button is much more attractive in hand than the high-resolution images are depicting. It was acquired directly from the family of a local Virginia digger and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War button or general relic collection.
