Confederate Saber and Scabbard - Excavated Caroline County, VA

ON LAYAWAY

This excavated Confederate saber and scabbard is believed to be a product of the Confederate States Armory in Kenansville, North Carolina. It was recovered many decades ago in Caroline County, VA by a local Virginia relic hunter. Both saber and scabbard are in remarkable condition for being excavated. Due to a slight bend, the blade is permanently fixed in the scabbard with no movement. Its slightly loose pommel and three-branch brass guard are present, and both with a pleasing green patina. The guard has an inward bend and shows the crudeness typically found with Confederate manufactured products. The wood handle, its grip and wire wrap are no longer present (except for one small section of wire). The iron scabbard, with its noticeable seam, is in very good solid condition with no holes. It retains its two brass scabbard mounts, both with matching green patinas and both demonstrating the same manufacturing crudeness mentioned above. The rings are no longer present. The scabbard measures approximately 38 inches in length with the overall measurement, including handle, is approximately 44 inches. This is a rare opportunity to own a near complete excavated Confederate saber with scabbard and will be an excellent addition to any Civil War edged weapon or general relic collection.
