Backmark: "Raised 5-pointed star in the depressed channel (mark of Wildt & Klein, Columbus, SC)."
Design: According to "Uniform Buttons of the United States 1776-1865" by Warren K. Tice, “The North Carolina seal and coat of arms depict the female figures of "Liberty" and "Plenty". The former holds a liberty pole with her right hand and a scroll inscribed "CONSTITUTION" with her left. "Plenty" grasps a cornucopia in her left hand and wheat with her right." In an arc at the rim above the seal is "NORTH CAROLINA."
Construction: Convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 23 mm.
Condition: Excellent, excavated, secure drilled style shank present. Pleasing dark brown patina with worn state seal details. Glare in images of the button front is the result of camera lighting. High relief areas show a very small amount of original shiny brass. There are no pushes, cracks, breaks or repairs.

Comments: What makes these locally manufactured North Carolina buttons attractive is their crudeness typical of Confederate made war products. This example will be an excellent addition to any Civil War button or general relic collection.
