Sword Knot - Gold Bullion

SOLD

This original sword knot is an example of one worn before and during the Civil War. Sword knots were initially used by mounted soldiers to secure the sword to their wrist so as to prevent the loss of the sword while in the heat of battle. One end of the cord was attached to the hilt of the sword with the other around the wrist of the mounted trooper. This sword knot is in fair condition. Its color has faded and clearly shows wear. One area of the strap has nearly separated but still held together by a few strands of thread, thus it must be handled with care. It measures approximately 13-1/2 inches in overall length. This example could either be restored so that it could be added to a sword or, it will be an excellent display piece, as is, to include in any Civil War relic collection.
