Volunteer Maine Militia "VMM" Cartridge Box Plate

Item: Excavated Volunteer Maine Militia "VMM" oval cartridge box plate.
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with raised letters "VMM". Rear with solder fill and iron wire attachment loops (one missing on this example).
Condition: Very good, excavated. Its brass front has a very pleasing chocolate brown patina and is nearly flawless. The rim is complete and the rear has nearly all of its solder. There is one very small dent to the rim at the "V" end primarily visible from the rear. It is in this same area on the rear where a tiny bit of surface solder loss has occurred. One attachment loop, along with remnants of the other, remain intact. There are no cracks, bends, or repairs.

Approximate size: 56 x 87 mm.
Comments: This plate will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
